ARRA Amended By New Temporary Extension Act

IMPORTANT LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

M. F. Irvine is currently reviewing information from the Department of Labor on the new Temporary Extension Act of 2010 as it pertains to COBRA participants.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) was amended on March 2, 2010 by the Temporary Extension Act of 2010. This new legislation provides an extension for health benefits premium reductions under COBRA for involuntary termination of employment that occurs between September 1, 2008 and March 31, 2010. (An involuntary termination, which occurs on or after March 2, 2010 and by March 31, 2010, and follows a reduction of hours is also a qualifying event under ARRA.)

We will keep you updated as we continue to review and learn more about the COBRA and ARRA amendments. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns.
